François Bauchet and his furniture for the Galerie Kreo

The French designer François Bauchet used a composite material based on sand, resin and cement to create this collection of furniture for the Galerie Kreo, which features clover-shaped details.

The Azo collection is the continuation of Bauchet’s research into shapes and materials. The long-term project has previously seen the designer create a collection, called Cellae, using resin impregnated felt.

For Azo, the designer has developed a material made of sand, resin and cement, using it to create block tables, benches, consoles and tables. The mineral composite is poured into molds and reinforced with honeycomb and fiberglass panels. Each item, designed for the Galerie Kreo, consists of two main elements: a "clover-shaped" column and a simple block surface.

The clover-shaped columns are positioned vertically or horizontally and used as legs to support the floor. For Bauchet, the shape of the clover embodies its preference for using "simple and free" forms, as opposed to controlled and regular forms. He called the Azo collection in reference to the azoic seabed which is composed entirely of mineral composites without organic remains.
