Rapel House

The project consists of a summer house located in a rural area near Lake Rapel, in a region of central Chile.

The main feature that conditions the environment in this area is the extreme heat in the summer, a time that coincides with the maximum use of the house. In response to this requirement, the home responds with two basic strategies, the large amount of shade and ventilation. The house is designed to be able to generate its own shadow through cornices that run along the entire house. Thanks to which only a small amount of sunlight can filter inside the house, making the environment cool even at high outside temperatures.

The atmosphere inside is very open and spacious allowing the air to cross the house across it. Areas of common use such as the kitchen or living room have been positioned to allow a high current flow so as to keep them fresh. In addition, the wooden walls encourage the maintenance of a modest temperature.
