Misericordia of Venice

An historic building that is an important part of the city’s cultural and artistic heritage, has undergone profound renewal.

The building has been transformed into a place that will host events and exhibitions. Opened in 1583, the building was one of the seven "Grandi scuole" in Venice. However, the construction work and the various modifications continued for another 200 years. The structure was abandoned following the fall of the Venetian Republic and from the early 1800s the school was used in various ways: first as a military barracks, then as a warehouse and finally as the headquarters of the state archives.

From 1914 to 1991 the “Misericordia” was used as a sports facility, hosting both gymnastics and basketball. In 2015, Alberto Torsello and the Human Group have started a restructuring project, which has led to a renewal of the facility. The environment is now modern and designed to host events, exhibitions and conferences. The project seeks to retain the charm of the original building, updating it to meet today’s needs.

Infrastructure enhancements include the integration of technological services, including a sophisticated lighting system, extensive wiring network, and a separate floor heating and cooling system in specific areas. In addition, DALI (digital addressable lighting interface) technology allows remote control and management, allowing you to create fully customized settings and effects.
