Joshua Tree Residence

This contemporary artwork could be considered more than a real home. The project is originated from an idea of the Whitaker studio in London.

The inspiration of the artist-architect was inspired by Malcom McLean’s invention of the early 1950’s: the container for transport. This revolutionary instrument at the time, radically affected the way transport was carried out, and its versatility introduced its use in many other areas.

Its shape and its high capacity, the ease with which it can be moved or modified, soon became an excellent element to be used in architecture. Its use, in addition to being extremely effective in a variety of situations, makes it possible to intervene in the territory in a minimal way and thus without causing an irreversible change. It can be reallocated and modified at all times, staying always solid and light.

These features allowed the study to build this gorgeous refuge. The Joshua Tree Residence has a really special look. The structure of the building seems to explode starting from the center. The interior, imagining them from the outside, could be considered narrow and anguish. Instead, the structure gives ample spaces and many windows, eliminating the feeling of closure that would otherwise have been present. The strong point remains, however, the design, unexpected and spectacular.
