Foro Boca

The monolithic design is the main feature of this concert hall overlooking the Jamapa River built by Rojkind Arquitectos for the philharmonic orchestra of the Mexican city Boca del Rio.

Built as part of a larger masterplan to rejuvenate the area, the building has rigid and composed geometric shapes that are in harmony with the environment where the building stands: a rocky wall. The exposed concrete walls are characterized by the texture of wooden planks arranged according to a diagonal pattern. The corners are slightly different on each wall, creating different shades and shadows. One of the blocks is slightly raised from the ground to provide a canopy for entry.

In the center, the highest and largest block contains the 966-seat orchestra hall, which mainly hosts classical, traditional and pop concerts, as well as dance, theater and film screenings. Simple finishes, including exposed concrete walls and wooden balconies that offer additional seating, mirror the exterior appearance of the building.
