Colors of Humanity

Architects of Steven Holl, in collaboration with Rüssli Architekten, were awarded in the International Competition of Doctors Without Borders.

The competition consisted in developing the best design for the new operating center of Geneva. With their project titled "Colors of Humanity", the duo won the challenge by battling all the other proposals.

The winning design proposed by Steven Holl and his collaborators consist of the use of a strong cubic geometry created by colored photovoltaic glass. The facility, which will host more than 250 people, will be built with a new technique. One of the facades will be organized with the solar cell structure that will contribute to the internal structure production up to 72% of the total electricity. The building will feature workshops, meeting rooms, classrooms and social spaces for the staff of the international humanitarian organization.

Architects of Steven Holl and Rüssli Architekten were unanimously selected in the international competition directly by the Logistic Director of the Center who states: "The Steven Holl Architects project is an opportunity for MSF to integrate its core values as independence impartiality, neutrality, altruism and dynamism in a new way of doing architecture.
