Äripäev Office

For Arhitekt 11, the inspiration for Äripäev office planning was a very special factory built at the beginning of the 20th century and the company’s desire to have an open office that could hold 280 employees.

Äripäev is the newspaper, the most famous and most important editorial company in Estonia. The chosen space is a former plywood plant, one of the largest industrial buildings in the Baltic States. The room enclosing the huge office has a maximum height of 12.6m, a length of 63.7m and a width of 38.3m. Äripäev office has a total of 2739 m².

In this historic space, a modern open space office for 280 people has been created, with operating principles based on the company’s business. The work area is located on the outer perimeter of the floor. Moving towards the center there are open and closed meeting rooms and in the center there is a public space with a library and a cafeteria. Existing materials such as limestone walls, beams and ceilings were preserved and cleaned. 50% of the closed glass nave was opened.

The interior corridors are formed into objects where the light from the top and the trees creates a feeling of open air. The biggest challenge was to get the acoustics needed to work. Since there are not enough wall surfaces, all the enclosed ceilings are covered with acoustic wool boards. The result is a comfortable, modern and definitely spectacular work space.
